MILSETENTAYSEIS 2022

Milsetentayseis Tinto is the interpretation of an extraordinary landscape in Ribera del Duero. Old vines, high altitude, an extreme climate, rugged terrain, ancestral varieties, and the minerality of its soils all contribute a unique complexity to this environment.

The 2022 vintage was characterized by a winter and spring with little rainfall and an increase in temperatures that caused a significant advance in budbreak. During the summer, there were several heat waves and little contrast between day and night, which caused the grapes to ripen very quickly. Thanks to the viticulture team that worked in green to protect the fruit from the sun’s rays, the different varieties in this plot ripened without notable incidents. The harvest began on September 6 and ended on September 22.

The small plots of Milsetentayseis are located in one of the most unique areas in the south of Ribera del Duero, between valleys, crags and hollows. An ancestral vineyard that has transcended the years discovering a past of an extraordinary varietal richness. The biodiversity, the mesoclimate of the environment and the al
titude, between 920 and 1.100 meters, mark the character of the varieties that are grown and express their potential in extreme situations. The varietal identification and recovery project has managed to count up to twenty-eight different categories in just six plots. Great variability of soils where the clay loam texture with a high ferric component that gives alviñedo an intense red dish color. The remains of Aguacae’s old mining operations coexist with the winemaking activity, providing a great mineral richness.

The grapes for Milsetentayseis Tinto 2022 were harvested by hand after an exhaustive selection of bunches in each plot. Subsequently, in the winery, a double selection is made: cluster and berry. In order to respect the grapes as much as possible, the must is made by gravity. In its production, special importance is given to the raw material and its origin, so that each plot is vinified separately. The winery has different formats to carry out these micro-vinifications: small wooden vats, concrete and stainless steel tanks and even clay amphorae. Milsetentayseis Tinto has spent eighteen months aging in used French oak barrels and foudres and twelve months aging in bottle before being released to the market. Finally, it has been clarified with natural organic egg whites. The wine, for greater protection, contains sulfites. It was bottled in late spring 2024.
